Shrenik was not fascinated with birds' lives earlier. This, however, changed for good when
he got into a boarding school, where his teacher was an ardent naturalist and photographer.
The teacher used to take the whole class for birdwatching in Hospet. It became a hobby and
later Shrenik started looking for birds' behaviours, understanding their calls and identifying
them Hospet where there is a dam.
During one such incursion, while rowing his boat, he spotted a flock of white birds which were later identified as greater flamingos that migrated from Siberia. He inspired his son to take up bird watching in Mumbai and identified migratory birds in the Arabian Sea in Mumbai. These birds can be seen in the Arabian sea just a 15-minute distance from his home in Mumbai, between December and March.
Shrenik believes that birds help people connect with nature. Identifying them,
watching them taking flight and listening to their calls is peaceful and good for mental health.
